What is the NeuralWriter AI Image Generator?

It's a free text-to-image tool. Type a description of what you want, optionally tell it what to avoid, pick a style, aspect ratio, and resolution, then hit Generate. You'll get an image back in about 30 to 40 seconds.

The tool includes a few things you usually only get in paid products like Midjourney or DALL·E: an AI prompt enhancer, negative prompts, and image-to-prompt analysis (upload a reference image, get back a prompt).

How to use the AI Image Generator

  1. Write a prompt. Describe what you want: the subject, the setting, the mood, the style. Example: "a vintage red bicycle leaning against a Parisian café at sunset, soft golden hour light, film photography".
  2. (Optional) Click ✨ AI Improve. It rewrites your prompt with more detail and suggests a negative prompt to go with it.
  3. (Optional) Add a negative prompt. List what to exclude: blurry, watermark, extra fingers, low quality.
  4. Pick style, aspect ratio, and resolution. Styles include photorealistic, anime, 3D, oil painting, and others. Choose one of five aspect ratios and a resolution from HD up to 8K.
  5. Click Generate. The image is ready in about 30 to 40 seconds. Download it as JPG, or tweak the prompt and try again.

 What's new in 2026

Updates rolled out this year:

  • AI prompt enhancement (✨ AI Improve). Turns a one-line idea into a longer, more detailed prompt.
  • Negative prompts. Tell the AI what to leave out.
  • Image-to-prompt. Upload a reference image and get back a prompt that would produce something similar. Useful when you want to match a style you've seen.
  • Resolution selector. HD, 2K, 4K, and 8K. HD is fine for drafts; pick 4K or 8K for print or hero images.
  • Five aspect ratios. 1:1, 3:4, 4:3, 16:9, and 9:16. The old version only supported a few.
  • Style presets. Pick a look in one click instead of writing "in the style of…" by hand.
  • New underlying model. Generation is faster and the output is sharper.
  • Local history. Previous generations are saved in your browser and downloadable anytime.

Aspect ratios for every use case

We support five ratios, one for almost every channel you'll publish to.

  • 1:1 (1024×1024). Instagram posts, profile pictures, product shots, album art.
  • 3:4 (768×1024). Pinterest pins, book covers, magazine pages, portrait wallpapers.
  • 4:3 (1024×768). Slide decks, classic photography, blog hero images.
  • 16:9 (1024×576). YouTube thumbnails, presentations, landscape wallpapers, Google News covers (Google asks for 16:9 at 1200px or wider).
  • 9:16 (576×1024). Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Stories.

4K Image resolution and quality

Pick the resolution that matches how you'll use the image.

  • HD. Quick drafts, social posts, sketching out ideas.
  • 2K. Blog headers, marketing graphics, presentations.
  • 4K. Print materials, hero images, large displays.
  • 8K. Billboards, posters, anything that will be viewed up close.

Higher tiers take a few extra seconds to render but carry more detail. Everything downloads as JPG, no watermark.

Who uses the AI Image Generator?

  • Bloggers and journalists. Cover images for articles, including 16:9 visuals for Google News.
  • Content creators. YouTube thumbnails, TikTok backgrounds, podcast art.
  • Marketers. Campaign visuals, ad creatives, quick A/B test variations.
  • Designers. Mood boards, concept exploration, reference material.
  • Small business owners. Stand-in product photos, website hero images, social posts.
  • Teachers and students. Illustrations for slides, worksheets, and presentations.
  • Hobbyists. Fan art, wallpapers, book covers, RPG character portraits.

What is a negative prompt and when should I use it?

A negative prompt tells the AI what to leave out. Common entries: blurry, watermark, low quality, extra fingers, deformed hands, text, signature. Use it when your first try has artefacts you'd like to remove. The AI Improve button can also suggest one for you.

How does the ✨ AI Improve button work?

Click it and the AI rewrites your prompt with more detail about composition, lighting, and overall style. It also suggests a matching negative prompt. Your original wording is kept visible below so you can compare the two. Handy when you have a one-line idea and want to see what a fuller prompt looks like.

Can I get a prompt from an existing image?

Yes. Upload any reference image and you'll get back a prompt (and a negative prompt) that would produce something similar. Useful when you want to match a style you've seen, or iterate on an existing image.

Is the AI Image Generator really free?

Yes. No sign-up, no credit card, no watermark, JPG downloads. There's a small daily limit out of the box. Install our free Chrome extension and generations become unlimited.

What's the difference between HD, 2K, 4K and 8K?

All four produce real images at the corresponding pixel densities. HD is good for quick drafts and social posts. 2K works for web headers and slides. 4K is the right choice for print and hero visuals. 8K is for billboards or anything that gets viewed up close. Higher tiers take a few extra seconds to render.
